Laser Fractional Resurfacing
This is a treatment that provides dramatic improvement in wrinkles, scars, tone and texture with little recovery time.
What is Laser Fractional?
Fractional is a laser procedure used for improving the overall appearance of your skin. Fractional uses a laser microbeam to treat thousands of pinpoint areas of your skin. Because only a fraction of the skin is directly treated with the laser, healing time is quick and recovery time is short.
What conditions can be treated with Fractional?
Fractional laser can be used to improve a wide variety of skin conditions but is used mostly for:
- Wrinkles and fine lines
- Post-traumatic scars
- Acne scars
- Age spots
- Sun spots
- Aging and sun damaged skin
How does the Fractional laser work?
Fractional uses laser energy to create thousands of microscopic channels in the skin which are surrounded by areas of healthy, untreated skin. The zones of untreated skin invigorate the body’s natural healing process and the treated areas stimulate production of new collagen, plumping up the skin and smoothing out wrinkles, lines, scars and other irregularities.
What areas can be treated?
Most skin areas can be treated. Popular areas are the face, neck, chest and hands.
What is a Fractional procedure like?
Fractional is a fast procedure done in our office. A full face takes close to an hour to do. Depending on the condition and the settings on the laser, this can be anywhere from just slightly uncomfortable to quite painful. In view of this, we apply a numbing cream to the area and, if necessary, give you a pain killer and/or relaxant. We will discuss this with you as you may be advised to not drive after the procedure if you have had sedation.
How many treatments will I need?
Fractional is typically done in a series of 1-2 treatments, spaced 6 weeks apart, depending on your needs.
What should I expect after the treatment?
The first three days your skin can be quite red and slightly swollen. For about a week after treatment your skin will look like a mild to moderate sunburn. You may cover this up with a foundation.
At your consultation, we will advise you of what we recommend for the number of treatments and how aggressive those treatments should be. This will allow you to know ahead whether you will need to arrange days off work and if you will need a driver to get you home. Keep in mind that the results from this treatment are well worth the effort.
