Sun exposure, hormonal changes and aging can all have an impact on your skin’s appearance. Over time, your skin begins to lose hyaluronic acid and collagen, resulting in fine lines, wrinkles and a loss of fullness and elasticity. We can now reverse these signs of aging by correcting the wrinkles and folds and adding volume to sunken skin.
Sculptra is a biocompatible (does not harm the body) and biodegradable (broken down by the body) filler that is derived from fruit acids. It works in the deep layers of the skin to build new collagen. This results in a very natural build up of tissue in our skin that gives a very natural result. The bonus is that it will last in excess of two years.
The commonest sign of facial aging is loss of volume. Our face consists of bone, muscles, fat and skin. In our younger years our skeleton is robust, the facial muscles are quite strong, there are well proportioned facial fat pads and our skin has ample collagen and elastin fibres to have good volume, hydration and elasticity. As we age, even the skeleton changes, the fat pads deteriorate and descend with the pull of gravity and our skin loses the collagen and elastin support.
Our face then starts to show hollowed cheeks and deeper lines from our nose to mouth and mouth to chin as well as jowls.
This is a further development of the use of fillers. By injecting the fillers deep in the tissues, they can ‘lift’ the skin. This is particularly noticeable around the eyes and cheeks but also the chin and jowls.
This is another specialized technique using fillers on and around the nose to reshape the nose. Bumps, hollows and bends can be eliminated or reduced in appearance with simple injections of filler. Dr. Balharry has had specialized training in these advanced techniques.
