Hands – they are everywhere – handsome, handwritten, handy etc. But, they are, like our face, a part of our body that is constantly exposed to the elements and are also always on display. That is why many people address their hands when dealing with the effects of aging. The skin on our hands gets thinner which makes the veins and tendons as well as the bones, appear much more prominent. The skin can get brown spots and other sun damage conditions like the pre-cancerous actinic keratosis. We can, therefore, treat the hands as we would treat the face. The loss of volume can be treated with fillers. The skin can be treated with Intense Pulse Light for brown/red spots or with laser fractional resurfacing to stimulate collagen response and thickening of the skin tissue. So, take a look at your hands and see what you think.
What's new at the clinic?
Dr. Balharry attended the Annual meeting of CAAM (Canadian Association of Aesthetic Medicine) in Toronto on the 15 and 16 of November. This conference brings together the leading authorities in cosmetic medicine in Canada and is establishing a Diploma programme to qualify physicians who perform cosmetic procedures. Dr. Balharry has already successfully passed the first part of the Diploma examination. New techniques and equipment were presented as well as significant networking opportunities. One interesting new product is Volbella. This is a new filler by Allergan, specifically designed for the lips. It has slightly different properties that make it particularly effective in producing volume in lips that have thinned with aging or even in lips that just need to look fuller.
Dr. Balharry also went through the ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) programme on the 22 and 23 of November. This allows the MediSpa to be able to actively respond to any heart event that may arise in the facility.
